He directed the home secretary, Punjab and inspector general of Police Punjab to ensure foolproof security arrangements in the constituency, to avoid any unwanted event during the polls. He advised the provincial government to strictly ensure that no unauthorised person enters the polling stations except the voters, polling agents, election agents and the candidates having specific entry passes issued by the election commission of Pakistan. He inquired from the additional chief secretary, Punjab about arrangements made by the provincial government for by-election particularly about the sensitive polling stations.
The provincial administration assured the chief election commissioner that foolproof security arrangements would be made at the polling stations. He said that directives and instructions received from the election commission of Pakistan are being followed strictly. The CEC advised the district returning officer and the returning officer to complete the training of polling staff.
Earlier, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Federal Secretary, Election Commission briefed the participants about the purpose of meeting.
Secretary local government informed the participants of the meeting that the district administration has made elaborate logistic arrangements for transportation of election material and polling personnel. District returning officer and returning officer informed that all arrangements have been finalised including the polling scheme.
It may be mentioned that by-election in NA-127 Lahore-X is going to be held on February 27 vacated by Dr Tahir ul Qadri. To cater 237,445 voters, 216 polling stations have been established, 101 for male and 100 for female and 15 for combined voters. As many as three candidates namely Chaudhry Naseer Ahmad Bhutta PML (N), Farooq Amjad Meer PML (Q) and Noor Naeem Khan of Awami Qiadat Party are in the run to contest the election.
